Organization: European Union

Duty Station: Brussels

Open To: Candidates with a bachelor in Conference Interpretation

Timeframe:  Not specified

Deadline: Different deadlines

Job description: Freelance interpreters routinely work alongside staff interpreters in the interpreting services of the European Parliament, European Commission and Court of Justice. We mainly work in the 24 official languages of the EU but all languages are considered; for freelance interpreters, there is no nationality requirement.

To become a freelance interpreter, you need to pass an accreditation test. You will find all relevant information on the various steps of the test cycle here. The calendar will show you upcoming accreditation tests for your language.

If your application is considered eligible by an inter-institutional Screening Committee and complies with our language profile requirements, you will be invited to do an online pre-selection test.

The test consists of a simultaneous interpretation of a speech of approximately 10-12 minutes into your A language. The Screening Committee chooses the passive language for your test from among the following: DE, EN, ES, FR or IT.

You can take the test once you receive the email invitation, as long as you are within the deadline (i.e. testing window). You can do the test wherever you like, as long as your device meets all the technical requirements. However, we recommend you take the test in a quiet place to ensure the best possible sound quality. This is why it is important that you carefully study our pre-selection test tool user guide.

You will receive your test results from the European Parliament test team once the evaluation period is completed.

To know more about the next steps, please visit the official page.

European Committee of the Regions (CoR) offers a limited number of university graduates a five-month traineeship

For more similar opportunities visit our section Europe

Organization: The Committee of the Regions is the voice of regions and cities in the European Union. The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is the European Union's (EU) assembly of local and regional representatives that provides sub-national authorities (i.e. regions, counties, provinces, municipalities and cities) with a direct voice within the EU's institutional framework.

Established in 1994, the CoR was set up to address two main issues. First, about three quarters of EU legislation is implemented at local or regional level, so local and regional representatives needed to have a say in the development of new EU laws. Second, there were concerns about a widening gap between the public and the process of European integration; involving the elected level of government closest to the citizens was one way of closing the gap

Duty station: Brussels, Belgium

Deadline:

-from 16 February to 15 July (spring session)

-from 16 September to 15 February (autumn session)

Description: Each trainee is assigned to a specific department of the CoR. The nature of the work depends largely on the unit. Some units are more politically oriented, others are more administrative. In general, the type of work assigned is equivalent to that performed by junior executive-grade officials (AD5).

The aim of the traineeship within the CoR is:

-to provide a unique, first-hand experience of the workings of the CoR in particular, and of the EU institutions in general

-to acquire practical experience and knowledge of the day-to-day work of the Committee's departments

-to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment

-to put into practice knowledge acquired during studies, particularly in your areas of competence

Requirements: To apply for a traineeship at the CoR, a number of basic requirements must be fulfilled.

Applicants must:

-be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union or of a State which is an official candidate for accession;

-have completed at least the first cycle of a higher education course and obtained a full degree by the closing date for applications

-have a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the European Union and a satisfactory knowledge of another EU-working language (French or English)

Wage: not specified

Application process: Applications are exclusively submitted online via an internet application form in English, French or German. Before you start filling in the form, please make sure that you have all the required information.

-There are mandatory and optional fields to complete. It is impossible for you to submit your application unless you complete all the mandatory fields. The other fields are optional, and are intended to help the Traineeships Office to establish a more detailed profile of you.

-Please check that all the information you provide is correct. Also check your form thoroughly before submitting it.

-You can return to your application form and make changes at any time before the submission deadline. After this date, no changes are allowed.

-Once your application is submitted electronically, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt by e-mail. With this e-mail you will receive a personal access code. This allows you to check your status during the selection process.
