This position is located in the Integrated Policy Analysis Branch of the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Sustainable Development Expert will report to the Chief of Policy and Analysis Branch and be guided on a day to day basis by the sustainable energy team leader within the Branch, in close collaboration with other staff of the Branch and Division.

Within delegated authority, under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Integrated Policy Analysis Branch, and guided on a day-to-day basis by the sustainable energy team leader, the Sustainable Development Expert will be responsible for the following duties:
- Develops sustainable development databases and qualitative information, on sustainable energy and the broader sustainable development agenda, required for recurrent or ad-hoc assignments
- Drafts inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on sustainable energy and its interlinkages with other sustainable development goals such as climate change, transport, technology and innovation
- Formulates, identifies and analyses project proposals on sustainable development issues, related to the implementation of SDG 7 on energy and its interlinkages with other Sustainable Development Goals, such as climate change, aiming to accelerate implementation
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in sustainable development, economics, public policy, public administration, finance, natural resources management, engineering, law, social sciences or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, capacity building and policy-oriented work in a broad range of sustainable development issues, with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goal on energy and its interlinkages with other sustainable development goals is required, of which at least three years must be at international level.
