Organization: The World Bank Group has set two goals for the world to achieve by 2030: End extreme poverty by decreasing the percentage of people living on less than $1.90 a day to no more than 3% and Promote shared prosperity by fostering the income growth of the bottom 40% for every country. The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. We are not a bank in the ordinary sense but a unique partnership to reduce poverty and support development. The World Bank Group comprises five institutions managed by their member countries. Established in 1944, the World Bank Group is headquartered in Washington, D.C. It has  more than 10,000 employees in more than 120 offices worldwide. The World Bank is like a cooperative, made up of 189 member countries. These member countries, or shareholders, are represented by a Board of Governors, who are the ultimate policymakers at the World Bank. Generally, the governors are member countries' ministers of finance or ministers of development. They meet once a year at the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund

Duty Station: Most positions are in Washington, DC; few others are in World Bank Country offices


Open To: Students who have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in full time -graduate programme


Timeframe:  Summer Internship (May–September): The application period is December 1–January 31 each year

Job description: The World Bank Internship Program offers highly motivated individuals an opportunity to be exposed to the mission and work of the World Bank Group in international development. The internship allows individuals to bring new perspectives, innovative ideas and latest research experience into the Bank’s work and improve their skills while working in a diverse environment. The World Bank Group seeks candidates for Operations (Front Line) in the following fields: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social sciences (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, engineering, urban planning, natural resources management, private sector development, and other related fields; or Corporate support (Accounting, Communications, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Treasury, and other corporate services)


Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have the following requirements:

- Having obtained an undergraduate degree and being enrolled in a full-time graduate programme;

- Being fluent in English; Knowledge of languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese is desirable

- Having computer skills;


Wage/fees: Paid but the amount is not specified. The World Bank also offers an allowance towards travel expenses. Interns are responsible for their  living accommodations
