Organization: The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals ("Mechanism") is mandated to perform a number of essential functions previously carried out by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (“ICTR”) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (“ICTY”). The Mechanism maintains the legacies of these two pioneering ad hoc international criminal courts and strives to reflect best practices in the field of international criminal justice. The United Nations Security Council created the Mechanism on 22 December 2010 as a “small, temporary and efficient structure”. The Mechanism started operating on 1 July 2012 in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, and on 1 July 2013 in The Hague, the Netherlands. The Mechanism may review judgments pronounced by the ICTR, the ICTY, or the Mechanism if a new fact, not known at the time of the trial or appeal proceedings, is discovered, and a Chamber accepts that such a fact, if proven, could have been a decisive factor in reaching the judgment, review proceedings may be conducted. The Mechanism may also conduct retrials of ICTR, ICTY, and Mechanism cases. The Mechanism may conduct investigations, trials, and appeals in cases of contempt of court and false testimony committed in the course of proceedings before the ICTR, the ICTY, or the Mechanism. This jurisdiction also extends to contempt cases and false testimony cases arising from proceedings before the ICTR and the ICTY for which the indictment was confirmed after the start date of the respective branch of the Mechanism

Job description: The Assistant Chief, Security and Safety will be responsible for the following responsibilities. He/She will assist the Chief of Security in security risk management (SRM) including drafting SRM processes and monitoring, performs routine security assessments to ensure the safety of staff, and ensure that all staff members and their dependents are kept fully informed on matters affecting their security.He/She will also Assists the Chief of Security in establishing policies and procedures for crisis situations and preparing contingency plans for emergencies, Assist in the recruitment, training and supervision of security officers and oversees the daily operations of the Section, Liaises with local authorities to discuss potential problems and plans possible methods of resolution, liaise with local authorities to discuss potential problems and plans possible methods of resolution and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should meet the following requirement:

- Having an advanced university degree in security management, law, business administration, international relations or related area. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;

- Having a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police, security management preferably in the police or military context or related area. Previous experience with domestic or international criminal courts is highly desirable;

- Having an excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of French is desirable;
