Organization: created in 2000, Gavi - the Vaccine Alliance - is an international organization bringing together public and private sectors with the shared goal of creating equal access to new and underused vaccines for children living in the world’s poorest countries. The Gavi story begins towards the end of the 20th century when global immunization efforts were beginning to plateau. Despite the promising progress of the previous two decades, by the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), there were still 30 million children living in poor countries who were not fully immunized. What was needed was an entirely new approach. So, with the help of a US$ 750 million five-year pledge from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in January 2000 the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (Gavi) was created

Timeframe: for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 20 weeks
Job description: the main goal of the internship programme is to provide a quality learning experience. In turn, Gavi benefits from a talented pool of individuals, specializing in various fields related to Gavi’s work and mission.
The programme is to provide eligible individuals with:
- a better understanding of Gavi’s mission, goals and objectives;
- a framework to enhance the educational experience with meaningful work assignments and projects, thus giving an opportunity to develop skills which will be useful in your career;
- an opportunity to work in a dynamic and multicultural environment in which can make a difference.
Qualifications: the criteria for this internship are:
- currently pursuing a recognized educational programme in fields related to Gavi’s activities, leading to a formal undergraduate or post-graduate qualification/degree;
- have completed a qualification/degree within a twelve-month period prior to joining;
- be fluent in English;
- have not previously participated in an internship at Gavi.
Wage: interns who are not sponsored by their university may be qualified for a limited Gavi stipend to cover basic costs such as local transportation and lunch expenses during the internship. However, a stipend may not always be available
