Organization: Elected directly by universal suffrage every 5 years, members of the European Parliament represent EU citizens. Parliament, together with the Council of the European Union, exercises legislative function within the EU. Indeed, this fundamental institution has three main functions: to discuss and approve European regulations together with the Council, to monitor the work of the other EU institutions to ensure that they act democratically and to adopt the EU budget together with the Council. Parliament has three offices: Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg. Luxembourg is the seat of the administrative offices, that is the "General Secretariat", while the meetings of the whole Parliament, known as "plenary sessions", take place in Strasbourg and Brussels.



Duty Station: Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg or other offices of the Parliament in the various member countries.

Open To: Schuman traineeships are reserved for university or equivalent degree holders, and allow students to complete the knowledge acquired during the course of their studies and become familiar with the activities of the European Union, in particular the European Parliament.

 

Timeframe:

These traineeships take place according to two sessions per year :

 

  • from 1 October to 28/29 February
  • from 1 March to 31 July

 

These traineeships are awarded for a period (not extendable) of five months.

 

Deadline: Each year, for the submission of applications, two deadlines are provided:

- winter session (October-February) > 30 June

- summer session (March-July) > 30 November

 

Job description: Traineeships for holders of university diplomas offered by the European Parliament, c.d. "Robert Schuman traineeships" are multiple and can be chosen by the candidate by consulting the page Traineeship offers.

The tasks assigned to interns vary depending on the location or assignment office.

 

Qualifications:

Applicants for a Schuman traineeship must:

  • be aged 18+;
  • hold a university level diploma(s);
  • fulfil the language requirement;
  • provide an eligible criminal record;
  • not have worked for more than two consecutive months within an EU Institution or body;
  • not have carried out a visiting junior or senior academia of six months prior the beginning of the traineeship.

 

Wage/Fees: The monthly salaries are established by the competent authority based on the type of internship. These amounts are made public on the European Parliament's website.

 

Application process:

In the application phase it is necessary to complete the application form and submit it online. The documents proving your qualifications and the possession of the appropriate requirements will only be selected if they are selected.

In order to apply for a traineeship offer, I must follow a simple two-steps application procedure:

1) Register

In order to create an account, you must:

  • visit the Traineeship offers main page;
  • select an offer that I would like to apply for;
  • click on the button Apply online;
  • complete the New registration form with my personal data.

2) Apply

In order to apply for a traineeship offer, you must:

  • select an offer that I would like to apply for;
  • login to my account;
  • upload my CV (only Europass Format);
  • upload a motivation letter per traineeship offer (maximum one page).




Candidates can only apply for 3 traineeship offers per campaign.

 

Taking into account the considerable number of questions, it is advisable not to wait for the last day to submit your application, in order to avoid inconveniences due to the saturation of the computer system that manages the receipt of the forms.

 

At the time of online application, a maximum time of 30 minutes is available to complete each page of the application form. It should be noted that, if the application form is left inactive for 30 minutes, the data entered will be lost.

 

Before completing the application form, it is advisable to read carefully the "Internal regulations concerning traineeships and study visits at the General Secretariat of the European Parliament"

 

To submit your application in the Directorates-General that best match your profile, you can read their description by clicking on the information button on the last page of the application form.

The application form cannot be changed online. It is completed and transmitted in a single operation. After completing the form and before sending it, it is important to verify that all the data entered is correct and complete.

Once the completed application form has been sent, you will automatically receive a confirmation message to the e-mail address you have indicated. The message contains a numerical code that you will have to mention in all future contacts with the Parliament. In addition to the code, receive a summary of your application in PDF format, the printed version of which will be requested if you are selected and the internship contract is offered.

 

Useful Information:

Applications submitted after the deadline or spontaneous applications cannot be considered.

Every year 21 000 people apply for a traineeship at the European Parliament and 900 of them are selected.

Recruitment and selection procedures are adapted to ensure that they do not disadvantage candidates with a disability.
