Organization: The University of Manitoba, Western Canada’s first university, is an academic institution ranked one of the top 50 research-intensive universities in Canada. It provides a wide variety of courses amongst which 47 doctoral, 90 master’s and one diploma program. Every year the faculty members secure more than $160 million in external funding

Open to: All students interested and possessing the required qualifications


Timeframe: There are different timeframes depending on what study course the fellowship is given for:

- Master’s program: for the first 24 months

- PhD program: for the first 48 months



- Fall session from September: 1 april

- Winter session from January: 1 august

- Summer session from May: 1 december


Job description: The Graduate Fellowship is intended to determine the recipients of the listed supplemental awards, which are meant to be held with the UMGF. The same process is used to upgrade new Master’s UMGF recipients to the Manitoba Graduate Scholarship for Master’s students. These supplemental award offers and MGS upgrades will occur in July of each year. Only students who have received an offer as of July will be included in the supplemental offers and upgrades


Qualifications: Ideal candidates should possess the following qualifications:

- Students with a minimum GPA of 3.75 (above B+) at a recognized university based on a Bachelor, Masters, Graduate Diploma or a Doctoral degree

- Students in all fields of graduate study (with the exception of those in the College of Medicine and in the Master of Business Administration) are eligible to apply, provided their program is eligible for tri-council funding



- Master’s Program: $14.000 

- PhD Program: $18.000
