Fulbright will be one of the protagonists at the International Careers Fair to be held on 11 and 12 March at the Sheraton Parco de' Medici Palace in Rome. The International Careers Fair is the event that gives students the opportunity to meet institutions that offer jobs, internships, training and that will allow participants to take part in recruiting sessions and practical workshops on how to approach the world of work for international careers. Among the participants this year at the International Careers Fair there is the Fulbright Program born in 1946, by Senator J. Willam Fulbright in order to finance scholarships for research and teaching, facilitating international and competitive exchange of ideas and thoughts between the United States and other nations of the world.
The Fulbright program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US State Department and by the Governments of the participating countries. The program operates in more than 155 countries worldwide and there are approximately 294,000 participants who have benefited from a Fulbright fellowship over the course of 60 years. About 7,500 scholarships are awarded worldwide each year.
In Italy, the program was launched in 1948 following the first agreement between the Government of the United States and the Italian Government and the establishment of the Commission for Cultural Exchanges between Italy and the United States (The US - Italy Fulbright Commission). The Fulbright Program for Italian and US citizens provides 130-140 scholarships each year.
Scholarships for Italian citizens: Fulbright scholarships for Italian citizens, offered for study, research and teaching projects in the best American universities, are reserved for Italian citizens who are:
- Graduated (three-year degree, second cycle degree or old degree);
- Graduates from the Academies of Art or Music;
- Researchers, associate professors, university professors.
Requirement for participation in Fulbright competitions is an excellent knowledge of the English language proven by the certificate TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or by the IELTS certificate (International English Language Testing System, Academic format).
All Fulbright scholarships cover, in addition to university expenses, also the return journey from Italy to the United States and the medical insurance financed by the United States Government.

The Commission for Cultural Exchanges between Italy and the United States (Constitutive Act 18/7/1972) is a body with legal personality and is governed by a Steering Committee composed of twelve members: six Americans nominated by the Ambassador of the United States of America and six Italians appointed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of the United States of America are the Honorary Presidents of the Commission.
The Commission is a bi-national body co-financed jointly by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate General for Cultural Promotion and Cooperation and Directorate General for the Americas countries. The Commission's activities are aimed at strengthening and expanding the exchange culture between Italy and the United States.
The Commission is responsible for:
- Promoting study, research and teaching opportunities in Italy and the United States through scholarships for Italian and US citizens (70 scholarships each year);
- Promoting the organization of cultural, educational and scientific activities both nationally and internationally;
- Offering an information service on Fulbright scholarships and study in the United States at the Rome office and the consular office of the US Government of Naples;
- Offering scholarships to Italian universities and research centers through the Fulbright Inter-country Program and the Fulbright Specialist program.
