Organization: The Museum of Brands is a popular friendly museum of consumer culture located in West London. The volunteer Museum Assistants helps the center to run the museum on a day-to-day basis, providing a warm welcome to the customers and playing an essential part in all of the activities.

Open To: Anyone is invited to apply, in particular retired members of the local community, with a specific interest in social history.

 

Timeframe: Ideally you will be able to start immediately, although this is not essential. The Museum is looking for volunteers who would like to donate one 4-8 hour day every week, either as a 10-2pm shift, or a 2-6pm shift, or a full day, for a minimum of 3 months.

Job description: The Museum Assistant role is fast-paced and varied, with the Museum Assistant being involved in various tasks throughout the day. The duties of Museum Assistant range from sales and cash handling, promoting Gift-aid donations, queue management, way-finding, and information assistance.

  • Welcoming customers, engaging with them and providing information about the museum and its collection.
  • Helping to boost return visits and Word-of-Mouth through positive visitor experience.
  • Helping visitors to discover more about the Museum, assisting with interpretation - e.g. answering questions, handing out children's quizzes and trails and leaflets
  • Assisting in admissions, for both the general public, and booked educational groups
  • Gathering and processing customer information.
  • Be an advocate for the work of the Museum of Brands
  • Conducting online research, and building contact list
  • Selling museum merchandise and refreshments, and helping to keep the gift shop fully stocked and operational.
  • Supporting our marketing assistant through producing social media content and assisting in campaign
  • Helping to promote the Museum in the local area.

 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, friendly and confident about approaching audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office are essential, as is a good telephone manner.  
  • Good team working and social skills  
  • We use online social media to promote our activities, so skills and experience in this area are desirable but not necessary.  
  • Basic knowledge of the Museum's activities  
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative  
  • Experience of working with children or on public events desirable but not essential  
  • Administration skills or office experience desirable but not essential

Wage/Fees: unpaid; however, travel and/or lunch expenses will be paid up to £10 per day.

Useful information: The museum provides an induction process, during which Volunteers are given the information they need to enjoy their time. Training is mainly 'on the job', supported by an experienced volunteer as well as the manager on duty. Volunteers are given regular feedback and the Museum is open to suggestions on how they can improve the volunteer experience. The Museum Assistant receives continued training and development throughout their time with them.

Organization: Hotbox Events was founded in 2003, developed as a bespoke festival and event staff and volunteer recruitment and management company.

Working alongside festival organisers, Hotbox Events has helped to setup and develop the volunteer operations at some of the UK's largest music festivals;one of those they are looking for volunteers is Camp Bestival.

Camp Bestival is a British music festival, the "little sister" of Bestival, both organised by BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob Da Bank. It is held annually, in July, at Lulworth Castle in Dorset and is targeted at families with small children. Qualifications: To work or volunteer at Camp Bestival with Hotbox Events you must have the right to work and volunteer in the UK. Under the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act of 2006 Hotbox Events is required by law to check your right to work and volunteer in the UK.

 

Wage/Fees: If it’s your first time volunteering  at a festival the refundable volunteer deposit is £145.

If you've volunteered at a festival  before the refundable volunteer deposit is discounted by 35% to £95.

There are no admin fees charged on deposits, so you receive your entire deposit back as long as you complete all of your shifts!

Organization: The University of Sussex is a leading education and research institution near Brighton, in the south of England. Sussex university was founded in the 1960s and received its Royal Charter in 1961. Timeframe: The duration varies depending on whether a MPhil or a PhD is chosen. Generally:

- a MPhil lasts three years time if full time and four years time if part time. It goes less in depth than a PhD and the final degree title is Master of Philosophy

- a PhD lasts four years if full time and six years if part time

 

Deadline: Also the deadline varies depending on the period chosen for starting the degree and on the registration opening time which are three during the year:

- in December for the January session  

- in April for the May session

- early September for the September session

 

Job description: Candidates will be involved in the human rights research field beyond a narrow legalistic approach also dealing with expert faculty and exploring how humans are socially embedded in wider processes of poverty, violence, identity, globalisation and the emergence of global forms of governance.

Candidates will also benefit from strong international networks within the university during their activities

 

Qualifications: Candidates must fulfill the following required qualifications:

- A Master degree in a discipline relevant to the Human Rights research area. Applicants should also submit an outline research proposal (four to five pages) indicating the nature, ambitions and primary questions of the research project

- IELTS 6.5 final score with not less than 6.0 in each section

- An upper second-class undergraduate honours degree or equivalent international qualification

Application process: Candidates can apply for up to three postgraduate programmes. If applying for more than one degree, candidates must submit a research proposal specific to each area of study he or she applies for.

Candidates are required to submit the following documents for the application:

- Research proposal

- Undergraduate or Masters degree certificate (if available)

- Two academic references (one of the references must be from your most recent university)

- CV

If the undergraduate or Masters degree certificate is not written in English, candidates must submit a certified English translation of it. In case of being an international student applying for a science or engineering-based programme, candidates may need approval from the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) to be accepted
